The Basics:
Below you will find information that will answer many questions you might have, whether for voice or acting. We are looking forward to learning more about your goals and to assisting you in your artistic journey!
Preparing for Your First Acting Lesson / What to Bring:
-
As you move forward, you will be given materials by your instructor. However, to the first lesson, actors who have access to monologue or scene materials should bring something they are familiar with. If you are new to acting and do not have pieces you are currently working on, your coach will provide materials for cold readings just to get things started.
-
We strongly recommend recording your lessons. Listening to the lesson gives valuable feedback on your process and progress, and reinforces the technical instruction you receive. To that end, you'll need a recording device. Phones are the most popular recording gizmo of choice these days...just look for the voice recorder app on your smart phone. There are also a multitude of small digital recording gadgets on the market.
Cancellation Policy:
-
Our policy for cancellations (including policies for illness or weather) is always available at the Policies Tab. It is essential to read this page, as the policy for cancellation is strictly enforced. Hard copy of this document will be presented for the signature of the financially responsible party at the first scheduled lesson.
Rates:
- Acting Lessons: $45/half hour or $90/hour.
Payment Method and Payment Schedule:
-
Checks are our preferred payment method, although cash is also fine. Lesson checks are made out to NM Productions, Inc.
-
Payments are remitted to NM Productions, Inc. for all lessons here, whether with Laurie Nelson or with a staff teacher. If making a cash payment, please use the envelopes that are provided and fill in your name in the designated space so that we are able to credit your payment.
-
Monthly Payments: When students move past initial scheduling to a regular lesson time, payments are due at the first lesson of each month for all lessons scheduled that month. Most months there will be 4 lessons, but some months there will be 5.
-
Cancellation Scheduling (see below) Until we schedule a weekly time, a check is due for each lesson as it is scheduled.
-
Cancellation With Credit: Lessons cancelled with proper notice (see cancellation policy) can be either credited to the following month or rescheduled.
-
If a lesson is missed without proper notice, but a lesson is still needed within that week, it may be possible to schedule your make up time as an extra lesson. You will however, remain responsible for the missed lesson. If you communicate your needs, we will do our best to accommodate them.
-
If in doubt about a payment amount, please ask. We keep detailed records and we are happy to share them with you.
